Nebraska cowboy wins PRCA honors at Crazy Horse

CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL – Jeff Johnston of Stapleton, Neb., won the all-around cowboy honors for the PRCA portion of the 17th annual Crazy Horse Stampede.

Johnston and partner Mark Swanson won team roping and Johnston placed fourth in steer wrestling to rack up the prize earnings to win the title.

Multi-year titleholder Terry Fisher of Fort Yates, N.D., again defended his all-around cowboy honors at Friday’s Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association session of the Stampede.

In unusual circumstances, including a thunderstorm at the end of Sunday’s action, William Sargent of Winner, SD, was the only bull rider to ride Saturday and Sunday. He won Saturday’s ground money and the overall two-day average. Meanwhile, Clay Hindman on Belvidere was the only rider to score on Sunday with 65 points, so he collected the $186.39 ground.

The overall top placers for PRCA action over Saturday and Sunday were:

Bareback: 1. Travis Sharp, Interior, 76 points; 2. Weston Garrett, Belle Fourche, 75 points; 3. Scott Montague, Rapid City, 73; 4. Joe Wilson, Kyle, 72 points.

Barrels: 1. Melissa Bachand, Spearfish, 14.6 seconds; 2. Jessica Mueller, Buffalo, 14.68; Kim Harrup, Footville, Wis., 14.88; 4. Tonya Williams, Eagle, Wis., 14.92 seconds.

Saddle Bronc: 1. (Tie) Eric Addison, Belvidere, and Jay Olson, Belle Fourche, 77 points; 3. Louie Brunson, Interior, 71 points; Ty Kennedy, Philip, 69 points.

Steer Wrestling: 1. Brent Sutton, Onida, 4.4 seconds; 2. Clayton Morrison, 4.7 seconds; 3. Ivan Teigen, Camp Crook, 4.8 seconds; 4. Jeff Johnston, 5.0 seconds.

Team Roping: 1. Jeff Johnston, Stapleton, Neb., and Mark Swanson, Arthur, Neb., 5.9 seconds; 2. Terry McPherson, Piedmont, and John Graham, Piedmont, 6.0 seconds; 3. Shaw Loiseau, Coleman, and Tommy Crane, Whitewood, 6.3 seconds; 4. Brady Williams, Hammond, Mont., and Jack Nelson, Creighton, 6.4 seconds.

Tie-Down Roping: 1. Glen Lammers, Rapid City, 9.8 seconds; 2. (Tie) Deon Dorsey, Isabel, Preston Billadeau, Parshall, N.D., and Scott White, Oelrichs, 10.6 seconds.
